About Myself
All of my life I have been inspired to creative expression. Growing up in Los Angeles, California, I was naturally drawn to film. I have come to believe that film has an exceptional power as a creative medium because it combines four individual media into a unified experience: image, sound, action, and text. Early experiments in video creation led me to study film in college where I produced an acclaimed experimental-autobiographical short film, Letters in the Sand. At the same time, I also pursued studies in sound engineering and computer science. After several years of working in the internet technology industry, I began to recognize that something vital was missing from my life. In order to understand this need, I returned to school to study the humanities at Pacifica Graduate Institute. While there I produced two more short films (The Artist and ANTHROPOCENE) that explore concepts in depth humanities as works of arts-based research. I am now working to establish a career as an independent media artist.
I first created this website more than 15 years ago as a place to showcase my creative works. I chose the name as a reference to one of my favorite songs from my favorite album: Estimated Prophet from Terrapin Station by the Grateful Dead. Although I was not aware of any of this at the time, the choice of name proved to be singularly appropriate, as it refers to a song that concerns a concept that the ancient Greek philosopher Plato called theia mania: a form of visionary madness that afflicts artists, poets, and philosophers. After lying dormant for many years, I have decided to revive this site as a place to collect my academic essays, creative writing, artistic works, and special projects. Over time, in addition to posting new works, I will repost selected works from my archives. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact me.
